SOLD REFINISHED 48" Nelson Platform Slat Bench in ebony!

As first described in my September 12 post,

this slat bench in ebonized wood, originally

designed in 1948 by George Nelson for Herman

Miller, is the ultimate iconic multipurpose

display and resting place.  It is one of the best

known images of mid century modernism.

Measuring a handy 48" x 18" x 14" H, the

bench/table was originally meant to support

heavy storage pieces, making it functional as

well as beautiful.  Some minor touch-up is

included if you want:  the black finish is

chipped off in areas, mostly on the one leg.  And

there is a small piece of chipped veneer on one

corner of the seat frame.  Not a big deal to get it

fixed.

Signed.  Ca 1980's.                                     $725.

September 12, 2012

Just a heads up that you can find some of my collection also on Etsy, under the names "Huntartandantiques" and "salyarcht."  My plan is to showcase on Etsy some of the smaller vintage pieces that have previously only been shown as a larger shelf grouping.

Eames Shell Chairs - now 3!

Yellow, Parchment (White) & Orange - 3

wonderful vintage, ergonomic, early 50's

Eames Fiberglass Shell Side Chairs with

original black legs, swivel feet & H-base by

Herman Miller.  Some of the original

stickers are left on the bottoms, & there is

the famous Herman Miller stamped logo

stamped on the Parchment-colored one because

it was one of the 3 original colors.

(See that one listed separately also, in a

May post.)

All 3 have age-appropriate

patina & some wear marks.  The photo

colors are a bit off - the orange is more

orange & less red, the yellow much deeper(BOTH SOLD)

& the white, creamier, as shown in the side view.  Ca 1950.

                                                                                       Three (3)     $750.

Sept. 6, 2012 - Looking back at the long, hot summer

After an extended trip from Chicago to even more hot & humid Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for dental work (!), I am back with fresh ideas & an increased sense of thankfulness for how we are all fighting to save our world as we know it.

While there, I met many beautiful new friends, especially Katherine & her exciting new folk art collection called Color Pod .  With her permission, I will be creating my own new local designs.  I can also market hers through my shop.

Stay tuned for other new finds that I will be posting this week!

Thanks to everyone who visited my collection this past

weekend during the Custer St. fair.  A special thank you to

so many who told me how much they liked my business

sign with the Eames Chair logo!

Some of you also took advantage of the special 10% fair

discount.

I hope to see all of you again soon!

One week from today - June 10 from 12 to 5 pm - is The Vintage Bazaar at the Aragon, 1106 West Lawrence Avenue in Chicago.   It is near the Lawrence El stop on the red line.  If you're driving, I also scouted a lot of unzoned street parking.  I will be outside with my collection in the parking lot across the street, in a space assigned that day.

Check yelp & krrb for what I'll be showing.

Hope to see a lot of you there!

May 23, 2012

This past 2 weeks have been quite a push, but it was all worth it.  To see so many

delighted faces of people - either leaving with their treasures or just commenting about the

beautiful selection of pieces & colors - has me hooked on this business!

Some of the larger pieces sold include the comfy Barcerlona & Wegner-style chairs,

along with an Ergon 2 swivel desk chair, a striking pair of white plaster & wood Quartite

lamps, a cool 3-shade metal pole lamp, Danish Modern magazine stand, orange Prolon

bowl, orange & blue Zero fan, wrought iron stand with record slots, Italian stacking coasters,

an older Yurok basket & a signed, framed poster by Susan Hunt-Wulkowicz.  Dansk pieces

were almost as popular as collections of random old keys & dogs!  However, still available

for the upcoming Vintage Bazaar at the Aragon on June 10 are many lights & lamps, the

Aeron, Eames & Eric Buch chairs & the Nelson headboards.  But I'm going to have to

replenish my stock of old keys!

SOLD

A pair of Hans Wegner-style wood & rope

folding chairs, made in Yugoslavia, ca 1960

are extremely comfortable.  The oak

colored  wood, brass hinges & roping are in

great condition.

The low-sitting chair was originally

designed by Hans Wegner of Denmark in

1949.

SOLD

Vintage black vinyl Barcelona-style button-

tufted lounge chairs, ca 1980, are also quite

relaxing to sit in.  They were found in good

condition with just a bit of discoloration on

their strudy steel frames.  They have

pleasing proportions, similar to the original

chair designed by Mies van der Rohe for the

1929 Barcelona Pavilion that was conceived as "'an ideal

zone of tranquillity' for the weary visitor" to the Universal

Exhibition in Germany.
